Tell us a little bit about your photographic journey.
I’m very new to photography! I’ve been doing this just over a year. When my daughter turned 5 and started full time school I suddenly found myself at a loss, I turned my attention to photography and I discovered that it made me feel incredibly fulfilled. That fulfilment just keeps growing and has brought me a kind of inner calm and peace that’s difficult to explain!
Tell us a bit about your style.
I’m honestly still just finding my feet!
I hope that my work is emotive. My images are all of my heart and soul. If I could just take meaningful photographs of the people I love for the rest of my life I would be happy.
What gear do you use?
Nikon D850
Nikon 24-70mm 2.8
Nikon 85mm 1.4
Lensbaby Sol45
Whats your go to lens and why?
My Nikon 85mm 1.4. It is such a beautiful lens for portraits, and I love the dreamy compression it gives for my outdoor shots too.
Who and what inspires you?
My children inspire me immensely. I adore photographing them. They are not always in the mood but when they are their enthusiasm is a delight. I love collaborating with them and hearing their ideas, and I think it is a very special thing to create art together.
I am also inspired by photography communities and groups like P52clicks - they provide a place where my work is seen and that is incredibly motivating.
What tips do you have for shooting for black and white?
I look for a situation or location where the light will create good contrast, so that once converted to black and white - a good tonal range will give different textures and tones to create a powerful conversion.
What black and white image are you most proud of &/or love the most and why My favourite black and white image is the one of my daughter - with her hair covering half of her face -holding her kitten. I love this image. I love the almost juxtaposition of emotions. I see her strength and I see her vulnerability. I see my daughter and I also see so very much of myself.
